#20 Pagination Design

pagination

Second day running at the Timberyard and I am re-designing the pagination. It is only a small section of the blog but after all it is the little things that matter! So I am giving it ‘the Fashion Technologist’ touch to create a stronger overall brand aesthetic.

This is a simple task and should only take you an hour or so to complete, so let’s get started!

#19 Make Your Blog Post Timestamp Relative Time Like Instagram

Today I have been coding in the Timberyard, it’s an internet cafe on Old Street in London that is definitely a firm favourite for chloédigital, with tea timed to perfection, and a tomato paste people could fight over it’s a nice setting to sit, eat and code away.

In this post I will be showing you how to add a time stamp that will tell your readers exactly how long ago an article was posted, just like how Instagram does! Why? It is a cool way for readers to see how active you are on your blog.

Let’s get started!!

#17 Hide Google Analytics for logged in users

Screen Shot

Another easy Sunday task, and this time it seriously helps you gain better data about your site!

Today we will be adding google analytics code, but with a difference. This google analytics code will only count users views if they are not logged into the blog, because we know you like to check up on your blog and make sure everything is how it should be but don’t don’t need to know that you have read your own blog and so for more accurate data adding in this section of code will help!

#16 Fixed ‘Discover More’ Bar on Blog Post

discover more

It is the weekend and to start it off here is a cute feature to add to your blog!

I have made a discover more bar that shows as you scroll down a post to help promote other posts on the blog and increase user engagement.

I had to drag myself away from playing with what I made to start writing this tutorial! Try and sweep across the circle buttons just the once! It can’t be done!

This task was not that easy however I do feel like I am getting my head around coding more and more as I go on, with confused plea’s getting fewer.

#15 News Sidebar Carousel

Screen Shot

I am so excited to show you this! For such a pretty little feature, that to the untrained eye might look as if it has taken a while to code… it only take a few steps! Yet afterwards you have something to make your blog stand out from the crowd!

Maybe you have two blogs and want to link them up in an aesthetically pleasing way? Or maybe you just want to give another blog the recognition it deserves! Either way you are supplying your readers with more of a reason to go on your blog and that’s what is important!

This also is only part one for this widget we will be showing you at a later date how to add in multiple blogs as well.

Let’s get started!

#13 Author Page

author page

I am kind of superstitious, I will salut (/casually play with my hair if people are around) a magpie if there is only one near me, I do not walk under signs ever and as soon as I realised it was the 13th blog post I got a little bit nervous. However, there was no need, this post went well, everything worked when it should of done and it was completed in reasonable time. Some people say the number 13 is actually their lucky number, maybe I will go with that from now on…

Today I am showing you how to make an author page, this is particularly useful to bloggers who may have guest bloggers regularly. Nonetheless, even if you don’t it is a nice way to give a little bit of personal information out about yourself.

Let’s get started!

#11 Social Media Buttons

social media buttons

Happy Monday!! We are into are second full week of coding! Last week (for me) brought early mornings, late nights, coding celebrations and some coding anguish, overall in general it was a lot of coding but that is what we want! I am sure this week will not be far different with some tasks scheduled  that you won’t want to miss. The days of coding confusion should be getting further and further behind you!

Today I am showing you how to add social media icons to your navigation bar. If you didn’t already know (and who doesn’t) social media is kind of a big thing and making sure every avenue is hit is a vital feature for success, especially in the blogging world! Multiplatform publishing is very important nowadays, the more access (and ways of gaining access) people have to your blog on the different levels of engagement that social media brings the stronger the bond between you and your reader. You’ll gain ‘recurring occurring products’ (recurring visitors) and who does want a recurring occurring product?! Therefore these social media buttons need to be clear and easy for a user to see.
